Charlotte, NC - April 10, 2014 - ColorID and Iris ID have joined forces to bring their innovative biometric solutions to university campuses across the US. As the US Master Technical Distributor of Iris ID products in North America, ColorID is providing hardware, software and support for the implementation of iris recognition systems to higher education facilities and their dealer and integrator partners. "With ColorID's extensive relationships within the higher education market (over 1,000 customers) and their large and growing access control dealer and integrator network, they are a perfect partner to help support this dynamic and growing market", said Tim Meyerhoff, Director of Business Development for Iris ID. Tim Ortscheid, ColorID's Channel Manager - Dealers & Integrators, added, "The high security benefits and ease of use that have led many international data centers to install iris identification for access are now available with the speed required for high-throughput applications. The system cost has also come down dramatically to a very attractive level." Ortscheid added, "One particular application that seems to have created real excitement in the last few months is the ColorID Biometric Dining Solution."
Using Iris ID hardware and software, ColorID and Georgia Southern University worked together to implement an innovative new method of positively identifying students for access to the dining halls, without personal assistance and without contact with any devices. By simply looking at the Iris ID camera for about one second, each diner is identified and their card number is instantaneously transmitted to the meal plan system.
"We are thrilled by the response from many prominent universities to the news of this system at Georgia Southern," said Danny Smith, owner and Executive Vice President of ColorID. "It seems that biometrics have become accepted by today's students as a comfortable and convenient means of identification."
ColorID is now engaged with several universities, integrators and access control dealers to implement iris recognition systems in dining hall applications for both meal plans and cash POS transactions. Significant expansion is planned for other campus applications, such as securing access to athletic team locker rooms, rec centers, daycare centers and other areas of the campus that require extra security.

Known to be the most accurate form of real-time biometric identification, the Iris ID system takes a picture of the subject's eyes with several special cameras within the Iris ID device. Since it is only a camera, there is no risk of harm to the user. Operating at a comfortable distance there is also no contact with the device. Enrollments can be performed in less time than it takes for an ID card to print during student orientation sessions.
Unlike other forms of biometrics, iris identification has a very small number of outliers and the highest possible degree of accuracy. The iris is the most complex and randomly chaotic biometric feature of the human body, so the chance of two persons having the same iris pattern is 1 out of 10-78. Even identical twins do not have the same iris patterns.
