Gary Smith founded ColorID in 1999 and is currently a Partner and President of ColorID, LLC. ColorID supplies identification and security products to selected sectors. Gary is a founder and director of Work Software, LLC (a.k.a. WorkWireless) since October 1999. Work Software is a software development company that provides networked software for retail chains (from 10 to over 300 stores). Gary was on the board of directors and on the audit committee of the New York Stock Exchange Company Allen Telecom. Allen Telecom was a telecommunications manufacturing company with sales of over $ 400 million dollars in 2002. Allen Telecom was sold to Andrew Corporation in the summer of 2003 (resulting in a combined business of over $1 billion dollars in sales).
Gary was also the CEO and President of Glenayre Technologies, Inc., a publicly traded NASDAQ company. Glenayre was a high-technology wireless infrastructure design and manufacturing company. Gary held many positions in this company including Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President - General Manager. Gary also served on the board of directors of Glenayre. While Gary was with the company sales grew from under $ 5 million to over $ 400 million dollars. Glenayre did over half their business outside the United States. Glenayre manufactured both Cellular and Paging infrastructure equipment with plants in the US, Canada and China and direct sales and service offices in over 20 countries.
Gary has been on the Advisory Board of Contec Innovations, Inc. a publicly traded high-tech company based in Vancouver; Canada. Contec Innovations is wireless information software Development Company. Gary is also on the Advisory board of Arrendale Associates Inc, a high technology software company that designs health care document management software.
Gary is also the Chairman and owner of BC Limited Corporation, a Canadian investment company since 1996.
Gary studied Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia from 1977 to 1983 and is a Professional Engineer. He also received management training at Stanford University.
Gary moved from Vancouver, Canada to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996 where he lives with his wife Janet and their three children. Gary serves on three non profit boards and is an active volunteer at his church.
